Dissention in the "Neo-Con" ranks
Francis Fukuyama has a very good article in the current edition of “The National Interest” on “democratic globalism”, the ideas behind the activist policy in Iraq and the Bush foreign policy in general. The only part of the article that is mildly surprising is the source. Fukuyama’s critique from within the conservative ranks is not earthshattering. I feel that there are many in the Republican Party that do not see Iraq as a strategic necessity and see the “War on Terror” as a war on Islamic extremism (See: David Brooks). We have expended great political and military strength for very little gain. This is the true problem with the Iraqi situation. We now start from a deficit in wooing allies and subjugating enemies.
Update: David Brooks agrees.
