Breaking Point of the Citizen Soldier

October 19, 2004

The piece by Phillip Carter highlights an interesting point about the military. Many have speculated on what the heavy reliance on the National Guard would do for recruitment and other matters. This article points back to training and competency. The divergence of morale between the regulars and the Guard is going to remain a key weakness of the US fighting method. America is not prepared to develop battle ready troops in the methods of World War II. A conscript army was throwen into the fire and learned on the job. You lose too many troops that way.
