Life on the "Front Lines"

October 28, 2004

Ohio has been deemed a “Must Win” state in the upcoming election. The national media is showering Columbus with attention. As a person on the supposed front lines who has been watching Ohio elections for about a dozen years now; all I say is it is mostly business as usual around here. It’s a blitz of Republican ads for local candidates that seem to confuse the national media mixed with presidental ads. I have had one person canvassing stop by my house and several calls for local surveying and get out the vote drives. This is really pretty similar to past years. The only part that diverges is the electoral politics and legal wrangling. Secretary of State Ken Blackwell has been termed “This years’ Katherine Harris“. Most people I talk to just wish it would be over.

You forgot one key difference this year. There have been a lot more traffic jams caused by politicians visiting Columbus.
