A Symbol of Detroit

September 5, 2007

Slate Magazine ran a piece about decrepit Tiger Stadium in Detroit. I would be sad to see a monument go, but the conclusion is exactly right. It is a monument to a past that is gone. Detroit is filled with similar monuments to a past that doesn’t look to be coming back.

On a personal I can remember driving by Tiger Stadium in the early 1990’s. It was still in use and looked great from the outside. I also remember passing the beautiful Michigan Central Station building. It has been empty for almost 20 years now. It is another symbol of a Detroit that is not coming back.
